Kim Mi-jo releases ‘Gyeongju Trip’ family revenge film

Director Kim Mi-jo has released her first commercial feature film, ‘Gyeongju Trip’ (Gyeongju Gihaeng), which premiered on August 26. The film is a family revenge drama that blends thriller, black comedy, and road movie elements.

The story follows a mother and her three daughters who travel to Gyeongju to seek vengeance for the youngest daughter, who was kidnapped and murdered eight years prior. The narrative explores the psychological trauma of the family and the intersection of past loss with present retribution.

Director Kim, who has drawn inspiration from her own family for the script, noted that the film was a project ten years in the making. The production featured actor Byun Yo-han, who participated in the film without a guarantee to support the project, playing the antagonist Baek Sang-hyun. The cast also includes Lee Jung-eun, Gong Hyo-jin, Park So-dam, and Lee Yeon.
