Kim Min-seok addresses consulting controversy and party integration
Kim Min-seok, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has addressed several internal and external political issues. Following a presidential press conference, Kim stated the party would focus on achieving practical results and listening to the public to help stabilize approval ratings.
Kim also raised concerns regarding the appropriateness of election consulting expenditures. He noted that the party is monitoring a controversy involving Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae, who reportedly spent over 2 billion won on a political consulting firm operated by YouTuber Park Si-young during the June 3 local elections. Kim emphasized the need to ensure the transparency and fairness of such contracts as they involve public funds.
Regarding party unity, Kim is in discussions with the Rebuilding Korea Party. However, tensions remain over the requirements for forming a parliamentary group and the issue of dual party membership. Kim proposed lowering the threshold from 20 to 15 seats, while the Rebuilding Korea Party has advocated for 10 seats, leading to ongoing debate over the logical basis for these numbers.
