Democratic Party of Korea focuses on centrist expansion and livelihood reforms
The Democratic Party of Korea concluded a two-day lawmaker workshop at the Inspire Resort in Incheon, focusing on legislative priorities for the upcoming regular National Assembly session. Party leader Kim Min-seok emphasized a ‘livelihood-first’ strategy, pledging that all lawmakers will be assigned specific missions to address economic and social issues.
The workshop also highlighted internal ideological tensions. Kim Min-seok sparked debate by characterizing his leadership as a move toward ‘centrist and conservative expansion’ to broaden the party's base, contrasting this with former representative Jung Chung-rae, whom he described as a proponent of the view that ‘there is no middle ground.’ Jung criticized Kim’s remarks as ‘microphone dictatorship’ and expressed regret over having his name used as a tool for logical debate.
To strengthen direct communication with the public, the party announced the launch of ‘Democratic Party TV,’ a revamped official YouTube platform. Scheduled to begin pilot broadcasts on September 1, the channel aims to provide verified information and engage both progressive and centrist audiences, with Kim Min-seok set to appear regularly in morning live broadcasts.
