Kim Min-seok pursues political expansion and unification
Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok is pursuing a strategy of political expansion and unification. During the first meeting of the Great Unification Promotion Task Force, Kim expressed his intention to recruit talented individuals across the political spectrum, including moderates and conservatives, to achieve a sustainable and winning unification.
Kim is also engaging with smaller opposition parties. He has formed an informal consultative body, the ‘5th Floor Corner Meeting,’ with leaders from four minor opposition parties to facilitate communication and discuss political reform agendas. Regarding the Rebuilding Korea Party, Kim noted that the process could result in either a formal merger or a strategic alliance.
In a move to strengthen the party's presence in traditionally conservative regions, Kim is scheduled to hold a supreme council meeting in Andong. This follows previous regional visits to Busan and Gangneung as part of the party's ‘Eastward Policy’ aimed at transforming the Democratic Party into a truly national entity.
