Kim Min-seok urges restraint over Kim Ji-yong nomination

Democratic Party of Korea leader Kim Min-seok has called for restraint among party members and public officials regarding the nomination of Kim Ji-yong for the position of head of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency. Addressing internal opposition, Kim stated that individual expressions of dissent should be handled through the upcoming personnel hearing scheduled for the 14th, rather than through public outcry.

This call for restraint follows criticism from figures such as Gyeonggi Governor Choo Mi-ae, who raised concerns regarding Kim Ji-yong’s past conduct and affiliations. Kim Min-seok emphasized that the party would manage internal hardliners to prevent extreme confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties.

Additionally, Kim Min-seok outlined plans to strengthen the party’s connection with younger generations. Proposed initiatives include launching a youth academy and mentor group, providing dedicated activity spaces for youth, and hosting cultural festivals to ensure the party remains a central force in Korean democratic society.
