Kim Nam-hee elected Democratic Party National Women's Committee Chair
Kim Nam-hee has been elected as the National Women's Committee Chair for the Democratic Party of Korea, defeating Moon Jeong-bok in a competitive race. The election was widely interpreted as a proxy battle between the pro-Lee Jae-myung and pro-Jung Chung-rae factions within the party.
In the final stages of the campaign, both candidates utilized photos taken with Lee Jae-myung during his budget speech at the National Assembly to appeal to voters. Kim, a first-term lawmaker, is aligned with the pro-Lee faction, while Moon, a second-term lawmaker, is associated with the pro-Jung faction.
The Democratic Party also concluded elections for ten other national committees, including youth, elderly, and farmers. Five sitting lawmakers were among the winners. The newly elected committee chairs will serve two-year terms.
