Kim Osorio pleads guilty to lying to federal agents
Kim Osorio, the former editor-in-chief of The Source magazine, has pleaded guilty to providing false information to federal agents during a fraud investigation. The charges stem from her efforts to hide a mobile phone belonging to Rashad Ruhani.
Prosecutors stated that Osorio and Ruhani were romantically involved. In June, while traveling from Los Angeles to New York City, Osorio allegedly assisted Ruhani in concealing his phone from federal agents upon landing at John F. Kennedy Airport. Evidence cited by prosecutors included searches on Osorio’s own phone regarding “wire fraud” and misappropriation of federal funds during the flight.
Ruhani was previously convicted of assisting Lori Zeno, the founder of Queens Defenders, in embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the organization. Under the guidelines of her plea, Osorio faces a potential sentence of up to one year in prison or probation. Her attorney stated that she “deeply regrets the choices that led to today.”
