Kim Seong-gyeong revealed as descendant of independence activist

Broadcaster Kim Seong-gyeong and actress Kim Sung-ryung have been revealed as descendants of an independence activist. During a visit to Jingwansa Temple, Kim Seong-gyeong shared that she was recently officially designated as a descendant of independence activist Lee Chang-un by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.

While at the temple, Kim was moved to tears after viewing an authentic Taegeukgi (Korean flag) discovered during renovations in 2009. The flag, which was reportedly drawn with ink over a Japanese flag to symbolize resistance, is believed to have been hidden by the monk Baek Cho-wol during the March 1st Movement to protect it from police seizure. Kim noted that her great-grandfather was an independence activist and her grandfather served as a military doctor during the Korean War.
