South Korea vows resolute response to North Korean border threats

Military tensions on the Korean Peninsula have escalated following threats from North Korea to resume loudspeaker propaganda broadcasts and deploy additional tactical strike weapons along the southern border. Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, announced that psychological warfare loudspeakers are expected to be operational across the entire border within October.

Kim Yo-jong also conducted inspections of border fortification sites alongside senior officials, including Pak Jong-chon. She emphasized that North Korea is working to turn the border into a permanent boundary to ensure territorial sovereignty. Pyongyang has accused the South Korean military of provocations, claiming Seoul conducted 2,870 warning broadcasts and 201 warning shots between August 1 and October 17.

In response, South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Jin Young-seung visited frontline command units to inspect combat readiness. He characterized North Korea's recent landmine placements south of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) as a clear violation of the armistice agreement and a provocation that caused injuries to South Korean soldiers. The South Korean Ministry of Defense maintained that its warning broadcasts and shots are legitimate defensive measures intended to prevent incursions and force the withdrawal of North Korean troops.
