Kimberley marine research missions underway via PONANT voyages
Researchers from several institutions, including CSIRO, the University of Western Australia, Echos d’Océans, and the Sydney Institute of Marine Science/IMOS, are conducting scientific missions in the Kimberley region this month. The studies are being carried out aboard the vessel Le Soléalto as part of the PONANT Science program.
The research projects focus on mapping blue carbon habitats, analyzing marine plastic pollution in remote areas, and surveying sea turtle nesting sites. These efforts aim to contribute data to long-term environmental and conservation research in the region.
Through this program, cruise guests have the opportunity to engage with the scientists via onboard presentations and informal sessions, providing insight into the local ecosystems and wildlife.
