Kimberley prepares for annual Terry Fox Run

Residents of Kimberley and Cranbrook are invited to participate in the Terry Fox Run on September 20. The event will depart from the Kimberley Nordic Centre at noon, offering three-kilometre and six-kilometre loops for runners, walkers, and cyclists.

Last year, 200 participants in Kimberley raised over $10,000, making it one of 20 British Columbia communities to raise more money than the total number of local residents. The Terry Fox Run raised $3.5 million in B.C. last year and has contributed over $1 billion toward cancer research since its inception.

Proceeds support various research initiatives, including immunotherapies, artificial intelligence for predicting tumour recurrence, and childhood cancer studies. Organizer Rita Pak, a breast cancer survivor, noted that advancements in research have led to more targeted medical treatments, such as improved lymph node removal and radiation techniques.
