Kimberly Guilfoyle accused of seeking $100K from donor for credit card bill

Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, is facing allegations of a 'pay-to-play' scheme involving a $100,000 request to a Republican donor. Eric Deters, a donor and former Kentucky congressional candidate, claims that Guilfoyle requested he pay off her American Express credit card bill in July 2025, shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing. Deters alleges the request was made in exchange for political access and assistance with his legal and tax matters.

According to reports citing Signal messages, Guilfoyle reportedly instructed Deters to use a wire transfer to avoid leaving a paper trail. Deters stated he declined the payment, citing concerns for his marriage and lack of funds. While Deters characterizes the interaction as a clear quid pro quo, Guilfoyle's attorney, Jesse Binnall, has disputed the authenticity of the messages and suggested the funds could have been a reimbursement for travel and speaking expenses.

President Donald Trump addressed the reports, describing them as 'too bad' but noting he did not have full details of the situation. The controversy has drawn criticism from Democratic strategists and officials, who have called for increased accountability within the administration.
