Kimberly Guilfoyle resigns as U.S. Ambassador to Greece amid corruption allegations

Kimberly Guilfoyle has resigned as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece following a request from the White House amid allegations of misconduct and corruption. Reports from The Wall Street Journal indicated that Guilfoyle allegedly solicited $100,000 from a Republican donor to cover credit card expenses in exchange for facilitating access to Trump administration officials.

Donald Trump expressed disappointment regarding the reports, stating he was “surprised and disappointed” by what he read, though he noted she had performed well during her tenure in Greece. Trump declined to comment on whether he would consider a presidential pardon for her should she face legal challenges.

In a related development, Trump donor Eric Deters has filed a defamation lawsuit against Guilfoyle and her legal team. Deters claims to possess a 16-minute audio recording from Greece that he asserts could impact the Trump administration. While Guilfoyle’s counsel denies the authenticity of the financial requests, characterizing the dispute as unpaid consulting fees, the political fallout continues as Joshua Hack officially assumes leadership of the U.S. Mission in Greece as Chargé d'Affaires.
