Kimberly Sullivan rejects plea deals in Connecticut kidnapping case

Kimberly Sullivan, 57, has rejected two plea deals in a Connecticut case involving allegations that she kept her stepson captive in a small room for over two decades. The legal proceedings follow the discovery of the situation in early 2025, after the victim, now 33, allegedly set fire to a Waterbury home in a desperate attempt to escape.

Sullivan was offered two versions of a 30-year prison sentence in exchange for pleading guilty to charges including kidnapping, assault, unlawful restraint, and cruelty to persons. One deal offered release after 20 years, while the other would have suspended the sentence after 10 years. Sullivan’s attorney, Ioannis Kaloidis, stated that any deal involving incarceration was a “non-starter.”

Sullivan faces two counts of first-degree kidnapping, each carrying a maximum sentence of 25 years, alongside other first-degree charges. She has remained free on a $300,000 bond since her arrest last March. A judge recently denied her request to remove an electronic monitoring device and indicated that the core of the trial could begin in January.
