Kincsesbánya Primary School declared life-threatening due to structural damage
The Kincsesbánya Primary School building has been declared life-threatening due to severe structural issues. Following a professional static examination, experts discovered a large void beneath the building, which caused cracks in the walls to widen and deepen over time. Although the school appeared well-maintained from the outside, the internal structural integrity has failed.
As a result of the findings, the building was immediately evacuated and closed. This sudden closure left 124 students and 25 staff members without a facility. To address the emergency, an extraordinary one-week teaching break was ordered while temporary classrooms are being established in local municipal buildings and a community center.
Education Minister Judit Lannert described the situation as part of a “terrible legacy” in the education sector, citing decades of technical problems and inadequate previous interventions. The Klebelsberg Center, the local municipality, and school leadership are collaborating to ensure students can continue their studies in safe, temporary locations for the remainder of the school year.
