Kinetic invests $25 million in Dunedin electric bus expansion
Kinetic has expanded its New Zealand operations through its Go Bus brand, securing two new nine-year contracts with the Otago Regional Council. The expansion involves a $25 million investment in a zero-emission fleet and infrastructure in Dunedin.
The project includes the addition of 37 electric buses and 30 new drivers. A new daily electric bus service will also connect Ōamaru and Dunedin, improving coastal community access to the city.
To support the fleet, Kinetic has electrified its Portsmouth Drive depot, which now features the South Island’s first overhead gantry charging system. This system, combined with ground-mounted units, allows for the simultaneous charging of up to 38 electric buses and utilizes approximately 25% less space than traditional ground-mounted chargers.
