King Abdullah II opens Jordan's third ordinary session of the National Assembly
King Abdullah II of Jordan officially opened the third ordinary session of the twentieth National Assembly on Monday. The opening ceremony included the delivery of the Royal Speech before both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Following the opening, the House of Representatives will hold its first procedural session to elect its permanent bureau, which includes the Speaker, two deputies, and assistants. According to internal regulations, the most senior member of the House will temporarily preside over the opening session until a Speaker is elected.
Under Jordanian law, the King may postpone the assembly's meeting via royal decree, provided the delay does not exceed two months. The session is expected to last six months, with the possibility of a three-month extension to complete legislative and oversight duties. The session will also involve the formation of permanent parliamentary committees and the selection of a committee to respond to the Royal Speech.
