King Ayisoba seeks official role as Fugu Ambassador
Ghanaian musician King Ayisoba has appealed to the government to appoint him as an official Fugu Ambassador. He argues that his long-standing efforts to promote the traditional northern Ghanaian smock both locally and internationally make him a natural candidate for the role.
Ayisoba highlighted his use of ‘sika fugu’, a unique and distinctive version of the garment, to showcase the fabric’s cultural significance during public appearances. His request coincides with the government’s ‘Fugu Wednesday’ initiative, which was established by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts to encourage the wearing of the traditional smock to strengthen Ghanaian identity and support the local textile industry.
