Earl Spencer alleges controversial remarks by King Charles regarding Princess Diana

Earl Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, has made several controversial claims regarding King Charles III in anticipation of his upcoming memoir, ‘Swan Song: Diana, My Sister’, scheduled for release on September 22, 2026.

Spencer alleges that following Diana’s death in 1997, King Charles sounded ‘giddily elated’ like a lottery winner during a phone call. He further claims the King remarked that Diana would be ‘forgotten soon enough’ and expressed anger toward the Spencer family regarding the participation of William and Harry in the funeral procession.

In response to these allegations, Buckingham Palace issued a statement suggesting that fraternal grief can cloud reason and affect memory. Spencer has rejected this, maintaining that his recollections are accurate.

Additionally, the memoir contains claims that Diana experienced significant emotional distress during her marriage, including visits to Beachy Head while contemplating suicide. Spencer also asserts that Diana believed Charles was in love with his valet.
