King Charles III 10p coins enter UK circulation
More than seven million 10p coins featuring the portrait of King Charles III are entering circulation in the United Kingdom. The release, prompted by increased demand for the denomination, includes 600,000 coins dated 2023 and 6.5 million coins dated 2026.
The new coins feature a capercaillie bird on the reverse side, part of a collection inspired by British flora and fauna intended to reflect the King's interest in conservation and raise awareness for the species. This marks the fourth denomination to feature the King's portrait, following the 5p, 50p, and £1 coins.
Coins bearing the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II remain legal tender and will continue to circulate to ensure a smooth transition. The Royal Mint noted that coins featuring the King currently represent only 1% of the more than 24 billion coins in circulation across the UK.
