King Charles III popularity hits lowest level since accession

King Charles III has reached his lowest approval rating since ascending the throne, according to recent polling data. A YouGov survey conducted in late October 2026 indicates that his positive approval rating has fallen to 58 percent, a four percentage point decrease from the summer.

Negative assessments of the monarch have risen to 34 percent, marking a high point during his reign. The data reveals significant generational divides: while 76 percent of respondents over the age of 65 approve of the King, only 38 percent of those aged 18 to 24 hold a positive view.

Despite the decline in personal favorability for the King, the monarchy as an institution maintains majority support, with between 55 and 58 percent of respondents viewing it positively. In contrast, Prince William and Princess Kate maintain higher approval ratings, ranging between 72 and 74 percent.

Amidst these shifting public opinions, Buckingham Palace has maintained its stance regarding the King’s handling of family matters. Following the return of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the UK, the Palace confirmed that the King remains confident in his approach to managing family relations and his official duties.
