King Charles III describes plaque unveilings as hazardous
During a visit to Aberdeen, Scotland, to open the new headquarters of Great British Energy, King Charles III remarked that unveiling plaques can be a “slightly hazardous occasion.” The monarch noted that he has discovered this to his cost on many occasions, citing a personal track record of mishaps during ceremonial duties.
This year, the King has experienced several plaque-related accidents. In March, he dropped a wooden plaque while visiting the solar company Oxford Photovoltaics, describing the incident as a “disaster.” More recently, a plaque fell onto the grass during the Victoria League’s 125th Anniversary Garden Party.
While the King expressed caution regarding these duties, the reports noted a contrast with Prince Edward, who is known for a more theatrical approach to plaque unveilings, often using humor and exaggerated gestures.
