King Charles III to stay at Clarence House as Buckingham Palace renovation ends

A royal financial report confirms that King Charles III and Queen Camilla will not move into Buckingham Palace after its extensive refurbishment, which is set to finish in early 2027. The renovation, costing about £369 million (≈ €428 million), will modernise utilities and improve fire‑ and flood‑risk safety, but the palace will continue to serve as the administrative and ceremonial hub of the British monarchy rather than as a private residence.

The monarch will remain based at Clarence House in London, where he has lived since 2003, and will retain other royal homes in Scotland, Glostershire, Norfolk and Windsor. The report also details increased sovereign‑grant funding for the royal family and notes that King Charles has voluntarily paid over £30 million in personal taxes since his accession in 2022, a step cited as unprecedented transparency.
