Charles Spencer memoir reveals controversial royal family claims
Charles Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, has released a new memoir titled ‘Swan Song: Diana, My Sister’, which contains several controversial claims regarding the British Royal Family. Spencer alleges that Princess Diana once told him her husband, now King Charles III, was ‘in love with his valet’. The book also claims that the King expressed relief or even elation following Diana’s death, suggesting he was eager to marry Camilla.
Additionally, Spencer asserts that his father, Edward John Spencer, had a romantic relationship with the future Queen Elizabeth II that was reportedly blocked by Lord Mountbatten. The memoir further details tensions surrounding Diana’s funeral, including a disagreement over whether Prince William and Prince Harry should walk behind their mother’s coffin.
Buckingham Palace has issued a rare response, stating that while they do not comment on books, ‘His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory’ in the years following a loss. Meanwhile, reports suggest King Charles III is seeking to mediate the ongoing rift between Prince William and Prince Harry, potentially through a memorial service for Diana in 2027.
