King County animal services says wildlife caused recent cat deaths

Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) announced that recent cat deaths in South King County were caused by wildlife, not by human activity. The investigation, prompted by social‑media concerns about possible intentional killings, involved a board‑certified veterinary forensic pathologist and a wildlife biologist, who found no evidence of human‑inflicted trauma. The agency noted that wildlife such as coyotes can inflict injuries that may appear as deliberate mutilation.

RASKC reminded pet owners that free‑roaming cats face several hazards, including predation by coyotes, vehicle strikes, disease, toxins and fights with other animals. It recommends keeping cats indoors, using secure outdoor enclosures, or supervising outdoor time. All cats and dogs in the county must be licensed, and residents are urged to report dangerous wildlife to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and any suspected animal cruelty to RASKC or local law enforcement.
