King County awarded $15 million for public safety initiatives
King County has been awarded a $15 million grant from the state Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC) Public Safety Funding Program ESHB 2015. Announced by King County Executive Girmay Zahilay, the funds are intended to bolster local public safety through several targeted initiatives.
The allocation includes $4.9 million for countywide gun violence prevention programs designed to intervene with high-risk individuals and promote community healing. Additionally, $4.8 million is designated for crisis intervention and de-escalation training for law enforcement and corrections officers, including mandated training for King County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
Further investments include $2.47 million for Mobile Rapid Response Crisis Teams and diversion efforts, as well as $1.2 million to expand the Regional Crisis Response program. This program deploys mental health professionals alongside first responders in north King County cities to provide immediate crisis response and resource referrals.
