King County invests $900,000 to support immigrant and refugee communities
King County officials have announced a $900,000 investment to establish the South King County Immigrant and Refugee Futures Fund (SIRFF). This initiative is designed to support immigrant and refugee communities in South King County who have been impacted by federal immigration enforcement activities.
As a public-private partnership, the fund will provide resources to organizational networks to address basic needs, mental health, safety education, and rapid response training for families. The Renton Regional Community Foundation has committed to providing a minimum match of $250,000 toward the initiative.
This new funding builds upon a previous executive order from February, which distributed $2 million in emergency funds for housing stabilization, legal aid, and food assistance. The current partnership will be led by the Communities of Opportunity and the Community Well Being Initiative, in collaboration with the Renton Regional Community Foundation and the Sheng Yen Lu Foundation.
