King County lifts burn bans in unincorporated areas
King County officials have announced the lifting of Stage 1 and Stage 2 burn bans in unincorporated areas, effective at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, October 1. The decision, made by Fire Marshal Eric Urban in coordination with the King County Fire Chiefs Association and King County Fire Marshals, follows a period of cooler weather, increased humidity, and anticipated precipitation that has allowed wildland fuels to recover moisture.
Residents are advised to follow specific safety requirements for recreational and yard debris fires. Approved fires must be kindled with seasoned firewood, contained within metal or concrete pits, and kept under three feet in diameter. Fires must be located at least 10 feet away from vegetation and 25 feet from any structure, with a 20-foot vertical clearance from overhanging branches. All fires must be attended at all times and completely extinguished with water or moist soil.
