King County seeks members for Rural Forest Commission

King County’s Department of Natural Resources and Parks is recruiting new members for the Rural Forest Commission for its 2027 term. The commission acts as a public advisory body to help guide the stewardship of forested lands, including private working forests and wooded neighborhoods.

The commission aims to shape policy, preserve working forests, and strengthen strategies for long-term forest health and wildfire hazard reduction. To ensure diverse perspectives, the body seeks representatives from various sectors, including private rural forest landowners, Indian Tribes, academic or professional foresters, rural cities, and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.

Volunteers commit to a minimum three-year term and are expected to bring a working knowledge of local forestry and a commitment to sustainable practices.
