King David and the establishment of the Israelite kingdom
The biblical accounts in 2 Samuel detail the rise of King David and the divine promises made to his lineage. Following the death of King Saul, a power struggle occurred between the house of Saul and the house of David, lasting seven years. David initially reigned over Judah for seven and a half years before the elders of Israel recognized him as the leader of all Israel due to his military command and perceived divine appointment.
According to the text, the prophet Nathan conveyed a message from the Lord to David regarding the establishment of a permanent house for God. In response to David's desire to build a cedar house for the ark, the Lord promised to establish David's offspring and ensure his kingdom and throne would endure forever. The passage emphasizes a transition from a nomadic existence to a settled nation with a defined home.
