King Felipe VI accredits new ambassadors from Venezuela and Chile

King Felipe VI received the credentials of several new ambassadors during a traditional ceremony at the Royal Palace in Madrid. Among the representatives were Timoteo Zambrano of Venezuela and Juan Antonio Coloma of Chile.

Timoteo Zambrano, a former deputy and permanent representative to the World Tourism Organization, succeeds Gladys Gutiérrez as the Venezuelan ambassador to Spain. His appointment, made by the government of acting president Delcy Rodríguez following the capture of Nicolás Maduro by the United States in January, marks a shift as Zambrano comes from the Venezuelan opposition rather than the Chavista ranks. Zambrano is known for his history of political negotiation and his close ties to former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

Juan Antonio Coloma, appointed by Chilean President José Antonio Kast, is a former Senate President with an extensive parliamentary career. Other ambassadors who presented their credentials include representatives from Palestine, Thailand, Ghana, and Nigeria.
