King Felipe VI to attend 9/11 anniversary ceremony at Rota Naval Base

King Felipe VI will attend a solemn ceremony at the Rota Naval Base this Friday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The event is organized jointly by Spanish and United States military personnel stationed at the enclave.

Following the commemoration, the King will attend the inauguration of the Base Forum in Rota, an initiative highlighting the long-standing coexistence between the local community, the Spanish Navy, and the US Navy. Despite recent political tensions between the governments of Pedro Sánchez and Donald Trump regarding migration management in Ceuta and the use of military bases, daily operations and cooperation between the two navies continue normally.

Investment in the facility remains high, with upcoming projects including a construction contract valued at nearly $500 million and the arrival of a sixth missile defense destroyer this autumn.
