King Frederik X to unveil first official portrait at Frederiksborg Castle

King Frederik X will have his first official painted portrait as monarch unveiled at Frederiksborg Castle on September 25. The portrait, created by artist Cathrine Raben Davidsen, marks the first time a female artist has been commissioned to paint an official royal portrait for the castle’s Knights’ Hall.

The creative process spanned two years, during which the King visited Davidsen’s studio on several occasions to sit for the artist. The unveiling coincides with the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Carlsberg Foundation, of which Frederiksborg Castle is a part. Once completed, the work will hang alongside portraits of other rulers from the Glücksburg dynasty.
