King Frederik X unveils first official royal portrait

King Frederik X of Denmark has unveiled his first official portrait since ascending the throne in 2024. The painting, created by artist Cathrine Raben Davidsen, was revealed at Frederiksborg Castle.

The artwork depicts the King in full uniform set against an abstract green landscape featuring marguerites (daisies). According to Davidsen, the inclusion of these flowers serves as a tribute to Queen Margrethe II, whose name is also associated with the flower. The King also participated in the creative process by painting some of the flowers himself.

Following the unveiling, the portrait has drawn mixed reactions from the public. Some observers on social media and commentators have criticized the likeness, with some suggesting the subject resembles Prince Joachim more than the King, while others have commented on specific facial features.
