King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard announce EDM album Alien Metal

Australian band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is releasing ‘Alien Metal’, their first full-length album focused on electronic dance music (EDM). This marks a significant stylistic shift for the group, which is known for genres ranging from prog-metal to jazz-rock.

The project was primarily driven by lead guitarist Joey Walker, who has a background in dance music and previously performed in the dubstep duo Trumpdisco. While frontman Stu Mackenzie oversees the band's output, the group often utilizes a democratic approach where different members lead specific projects based on their interests and availability.

The album follows a series of smaller forays into electronic music, including the 2022 remix album ‘Butterfly 30001’ and the 2023 electro-disco project ‘The Silver Cord’. ‘Alien Metal’ features diverse electronic styles, including psytrance and jungle.
