King Harald V of Norway hospitalized due to treatment complications

King Harald V of Norway, 89, remains hospitalized at Oslo's Rikshospitalet following complications from his medical treatment. The monarch has been receiving cortisone to treat haemolytic anaemia, a condition where red blood cells are destroyed faster than they can be replaced. This therapy resulted in fluid retention, necessitating his current admission for further care.

The Norwegian Royal Court has announced that the King is on sick leave for at least two weeks. During this period, Crown Prince Haakon will serve as Regent, assuming the monarch's constitutional duties. Due to the King's health, he will miss a planned visit to Trøndelag; Queen Sonja will carry out that visit as scheduled.

Family members, including Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, and Princess Astrid, have visited the King. The Royal Court indicated that a further health update is expected within the coming week. The King has faced several health challenges in recent years, including heart surgery and respiratory infections.
