King Harald V of Norway in extremely serious health condition FAST-MOVING

The Norwegian Royal Palace has announced that the health of King Harald V is ‘extremely serious’. The 89-year-old monarch, who is Europe’s oldest reigning sovereign, has been hospitalized at Oslo University Hospital since August 17.

Medical reports indicate the King is suffering from hemolytic anemia, a condition causing the rapid destruction of red blood cells, which has led to complications including a bacterial blood infection. He has previously been receiving cortisone treatment for the anemia, which reportedly caused fluid accumulation in his body.

In response to the deteriorating situation, Crown Prince Haakon and Queen Sonja have cancelled all official engagements. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has also cancelled a scheduled trip to Germany. Other officials, including the President of the Norwegian Parliament, have suspended international visits to remain in the country. Members of the royal family have gathered at the hospital to be with the King.
