King Khufu and the legacy of the Great Pyramid

King Khufu, also known as Cheops, was the Fourth Dynasty ruler of Egypt's Old Kingdom responsible for the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Originally standing approximately 146.5 meters high, the monument served as a royal funerary complex on the Giza Plateau.

While the scale of his engineering achievements is well-documented, historical details regarding Khufu’s personal life and death remain limited. One of the few surviving physical representations of the king is a small 7.5-centimeter ivory statuette found at Abydos.

Key archaeological sites associated with his legacy include the Giza Plateau, the Grand Egyptian Museum, which houses a reconstructed royal vessel, and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
