King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos set for nationwide release

The Nollywood historical drama “King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos” is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on August 28. Produced by Teqsus Studios and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the Yoruba-language film will have its grand premiere on August 23 at IMAX Lekki in Lagos.

Directed by Adebayo Tijani, the film is set between 1833 and 1852. It depicts the 19th-century power struggles, political rivalries, and leadership conflicts surrounding Oba Kosoko, the 12th Oba of Lagos, during the period before the kingdom transformed into a modern city.

Femi Adebayo stars as King Kosoko in a production featuring over 70 actors, including Odunlade Adekola, Jide Kosoko, Gabriel Afolayan, and Fathia Williams. The film aims to bring Nigeria’s cultural heritage and historical narratives to a broader cinema audience.
