King Mohammed VI Grants Clemency, Cites 4.9% Growth on Morocco’s 27th Throne Day
On 27 July 2026 King Mohammed VI delivered a royal speech marking the 27th anniversary of his accession. He announced a royal clemency covering 1,788 individuals, of whom 1,679 were detained prisoners and 109 were free persons. The speech highlighted Morocco’s economic performance, noting a 4.9 % growth rate in 2025 and an expectation of a similar pace in 2026, driven by diversification into automotive, aerospace, renewable energy, green hydrogen and battery production. Automotive and aerospace exports now account for more than 40 % of total exports, and the country recorded close to 20 million tourist arrivals in 2025.
The United States reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara during the Throne Day celebrations. The King also called for expanded domestic financing to support industrial projects and small‑medium enterprises, emphasizing strategic self‑sufficiency and continued social development programmes.
