Morocco's King Mohammed VI grants royal pardon to 634 people

King Mohammed VI of Morocco has granted a royal pardon to 634 individuals to mark the religious occasion of Mawlid al-Nabi. According to the Ministry of Justice, the pardon includes 619 people convicted in various court cases and an additional 15 individuals convicted of crimes related to extremism and terrorism.

The 619 general beneficiaries consist of 462 detainees, including 13 receiving full pardons for remaining sentences and 449 receiving sentence reductions. Additionally, 157 individuals currently at liberty were included, with pardons covering prison sentences, fines, or both.

The 15 individuals pardoned for extremism and terrorism cases did so after officially renouncing extremist ideologies and expressing commitment to the nation's sacred values and institutions. Nine of these individuals received full pardons for their remaining prison time, while six received sentence reductions.

In a separate religious ceremony at the Royal Palace in Rabat, the King presided over a religious gathering attended by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and other members of the Royal Family. During the event, Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, presented an annual report on the activities of the Supreme Scientific Council and local scientific councils.
