King Mswati III targets higher sponsorship for King’s Cup Golf
King Mswati III has highlighted the evolution of the King’s Cup Golf tournament from a sporting event into a platform for international diplomacy and tourism for the Kingdom of Eswatini. During a gala dinner at the Ezulwini Palazzo International Convention Centre, the King noted that the 22-year-old tournament fosters friendships across borders and showcases the nation's culture and natural beauty to international visitors.
To elevate the tournament's prestige, the King challenged the organizing committee to secure E10 million in sponsorship, with the goal of establishing a E5 million winner’s purse. The 2026 edition has already secured E3.24 million in sponsorship, an increase from the previous year. The tournament will be staged in partnership with the Big Easy Tour, an affiliate of South Africa’s Sunshine Tour.
New initiatives include specific prize categories for local Eswatini golfers to encourage professional growth. While the current main prize is E700,000—the most lucrative on the Big Easy Tour—the King aims for significant long-term growth in both prize money and international standing.
