King Nikola Palace in Bar hosts Zavičajni Museum

The King Nikola Palace in Bar, Montenegro, serves as the home to the Zavičajni Museum, which was established in 1959. The palace itself was built in 1885 in an eclectic style based on a design by Dr. Josip Slade and functioned as the summer residence for King Nikola Petrović and his family.

The museum's permanent collection offers a chronological look at the history of the Bar region. Exhibits include artifacts ranging from prehistoric settlements and Roman coins found in the Bar bay to early Christian church remains and medieval jewelry. The collection also covers the Ottoman period and the liberation of Bar in 1878.

In addition to archaeological finds such as ancient ceramics and amphorae, the museum preserves the royal heritage of the Petrović-Njegoš dynasty. This includes the palace's red salon, which contains period furniture, family portraits, and other items belonging to the royal court.
