Uganda is preparing for the state funeral of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, the monarch of the Tooro Kingdom who died at age 34. The King's body is expected to arrive at Entebbe International Airport from Nairobi on Thursday at approximately 10am. President Yoweri Museveni is scheduled to receive the remains personally.

Following the arrival, the body will be airlifted to Kyegegwa, where a public procession on an open carrier will travel toward Fort Portal. This allows subjects to pay their final respects before the remains reach Karuziika Palace. A nine-day mourning period will be observed at the palace before the final burial rites.

Various cultural institutions have responded to the loss. The Bamasaba Cultural Institution has appointed a delegation to represent their community at the ceremony, citing deep historical ties between the Bamasaba and Tooro peoples. The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has donated nine cattle to assist with funeral arrangements.

Amidst the mourning, a succession dispute has emerged within the Babiito royal clan regarding the existence of a potential heir, prompting the formation of a council of 21 clan elders to manage the transition.
