King Promise advocates for preserving Ghanaian musical identity
Ghanaian Afrobeats and Highlife singer-songwriter King Promise stated that local artists can achieve global success without abandoning their cultural identity. During an interview on Joy FM’s Drive Time, the singer explained that while he previously experimented with music heavily influenced by foreign sounds, he chose not to release those tracks, concluding that musicians should develop their own strengths rather than imitating established international styles.
King Promise argued that Ghanaian music possesses unique qualities that international audiences desire. He cited the global success of the Spanish-language song ‘Despacito’ as evidence that music can cross borders while retaining its original character. He expressed a desire to influence the world through his authentic sound rather than being shaped by overseas trends.
Additionally, the singer discussed his long-standing friendship with Nigerian singer and entrepreneur Mr Eazi. He noted that their relationship, which dates back to 2012, is built on genuine connection rather than professional gain. King Promise credited Mr Eazi with influencing his business outlook and confidence through his straightforward approach to the industry.
