King Sunny Ade and the legacy of Chief Silas Bandele Daniyan
A personal reflection recounts the impact of juju music legend King Sunny Ade (KSA) and the legacy of the late Chief Silas Bandele Daniyan, the Ojomu of Mopa. In 1981, Daniyan brought KSA to Mopa to perform at the funeral of his mother, Mrs. Abigail Oni Daniyan.
Chief Daniyan was a prominent figure in Nigerian history, having served as the private secretary to Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, the Governor-General of Nigeria from 1960 to 1963. He was also a recipient of a scholarship from Sir Ahmadu Bello to study economics at the University of Hull in England, making him believed to be the first economist from northern Nigeria. His career included roles in the northern civil service and as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Industrial Development Bank (NIDB) from 1964 to 1976.
