King tides threaten coastal flooding in California and Florida

Coastal regions in California and Florida are facing potential flooding due to upcoming king tides around the Thanksgiving holiday. These elevated tides occur when the sun and moon align, producing some of the highest water levels of the year.

In California, king tides are expected from November 24 to 26. Parts of Los Angeles and San Diego previously experienced record coastal water levels in October. In South Florida, the Atlantic coast may see higher tides from November 22 to 29, with levels potentially matching those seen in late October.

Flooding can occur without a storm system, potentially leading to standing water on roads during high tide. The actual impact will depend on specific weather and ocean conditions.
