Kinga Rusin wins lawsuit against TVP over defamatory report

Kinga Rusin has won a final court ruling against Telewizja Polska (TVP) regarding a 2020 report that violated her personal rights. The lawsuit stemmed from a segment on the news program ‘Wiadomości’ that mocked Rusin’s presence at an Oscars after-party and her interaction with singer Adele.

The court determined that TVP’s reporting involved a “conscious attempt to manipulate facts” and was both unlawful and culpable. Specifically, the court found that international media coverage did not reflect the outrage portrayed by the broadcaster and clarified that Rusin had simply posed for a photo on a hotel patio where such photography was permitted.

Following the court's decision, TVP issued a formal apology both in writing and on-air during its main news broadcast. The apology, signed by liquidator Daniel Gorgosz, addressed the violation of Rusin’s personal rights, reputation, and dignity.
