Saudi Arabia postpones Future Investment Initiative to 2027

Saudi Arabia has postponed its flagship Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference, often referred to as ‘Davos in the Desert’, from its scheduled October 2026 dates to 2027. The decision follows an escalation of missile and drone attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels targeting the kingdom’s civilian and economic infrastructure.

Recent strikes have caused significant disruption, including an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and a strike on the Saudi Aramco headquarters complex in Dhahran. These hostilities have led to the cancellation or postponement of various major events, including international sporting tournaments and aviation disruptions. Numerous international airlines have suspended or modified flights to Saudi cities due to security concerns.

The Saudi Cabinet has welcomed a UN Security Council statement condemning the Houthi attacks on civilian facilities and maritime navigation in the Red Sea. The government is calling for increased international cooperation to prevent the militia from acquiring weapons and to protect global energy security and supply chains.
