Kingdom film series sets record with fifth consecutive 5 billion yen hit

The fifth installment of the live-action film series ‘Kingdom Soul no Kessen’ (Kingdom: Battle of Souls) has achieved a historic milestone in Japanese cinema. Within its first 26 days of release, ending August 11, the film surpassed 5.16 billion yen in box office revenue and attracted over 3.35 million viewers.

This achievement marks the first time in the history of Japanese live-action film series that five consecutive entries have each exceeded 5 billion yen in revenue. The film, based on the popular manga by Yasuhisa Hara, is currently the highest-grossing Japanese live-action film of 2026.

Lead actor Kento Yamazaki, who portrays the protagonist Shin, expressed his gratitude to the fans, stating that the success is thanks to the audience's love for the work. The series, which began in 2019, has accumulated a total of 17.34 million viewers and over 24.5 billion yen in revenue across its previous four films.
